About the lake

Nachiketa Tal is a still, green lake surrounded by oak, pine and rhododendron forest. It is named after Nachiketa, the boy from the Katha Upanishad who questioned Yama, the god of death. A small temple stands on the shore and there is a quiet clearing for a picnic. On a calm morning the trees reflect perfectly in the water.

How to reach Nachiketa Tal

From Uttarkashi, take the road towards Lambgaon and climb to Chaurangi Khal, about 30 km away. From the roadside there is an easy walk of roughly 3 km through the forest to the lake. Hire a taxi from Uttarkashi for the round trip; we can arrange one from the resort.
