Two routes compared

RouteDistance (approx.)TimeGood for
Via Rishikesh and NH-34 (Chamba, Chinyalisaur)About 170–190 km6–7 hoursWider road, best in the monsoon, from Jolly Grant airport
Via Mussoorie and Suwakholi to ChinyalisaurAbout 145–160 km5.5–6.5 hoursScenic, shorter from Dehradun city, narrower road

Route 1: via Rishikesh (main highway)

From Dehradun, drive to Rishikesh, then climb NH-34 through Chamba and along the Tehri lake to Chinyalisaur and Dharasu, then up the Bhagirathi to Uttarkashi. It is the route most taxis and buses use and the safer choice in rain. If you land at Jolly Grant airport, this is the natural way: the airport is about 170 km from our resort.

Route 2: via Mussoorie (scenic)

From Dehradun city, climb to Mussoorie, then take the road past Suwakholi and down towards Chinyalisaur, where it joins NH-34. It is shorter on the map and very pretty, with forests and long views, but the road is narrower and slower. Avoid it in heavy rain or snow.

By bus

Uttarakhand Roadways buses run from Dehradun ISBT towards Uttarkashi, mostly in the morning. You can also take a bus to Rishikesh and change there. Buses take 7–8 hours.

From Jolly Grant airport

Pre-paid and app taxis are available at the airport. For the smoothest arrival, ask us to book a pickup to the resort. Plan flights that land by early afternoon so you finish the hill drive before dark.

Tips

  • Drive the hills in daylight and keep a spare day in July and August.
  • In winter, check snow on the Mussoorie–Suwakholi road before choosing that route.
  • Carry snacks and water; the stretch after Chinyalisaur has fewer stops.
