The route

Leave Rishikesh on the Chamba road. The highway climbs quickly through Narendra Nagar and reaches Chamba, a small hill town with tea stalls and views towards the Tehri lake. From there it descends past Kandisaur and Chinyalisaur along the edge of the Tehri reservoir, reaches Dharasu Bend, where the Yamunotri road splits off, and then follows the Bhagirathi all the way up to Uttarkashi.

Shiv Parivar Resort is at Bhareti Chungi on New Bypass Road, 3 km before Uttarkashi town, right on this road. You reach us before the town traffic starts.

Stops worth making

  • Chamba: breakfast, tea and the first big Himalayan views.
  • Tehri lake viewpoints: wide turquoise water near Chinyalisaur.
  • Dharasu: a short break where the Yamunotri road branches off.

By bus

Uttarakhand Roadways and private buses leave Rishikesh for Uttarkashi mostly in the early morning, especially in the yatra season. The ride takes 7–8 hours. Ask the conductor to drop you at Bhareti Chungi for our resort, or get off at Uttarkashi bus stand, 3 km away.

By shared jeep or taxi

Shared jeeps leave when full and are quicker than the bus. A private taxi is the most comfortable and lets you stop when you like. We can arrange a pickup from Rishikesh, Haridwar or Jolly Grant airport.

Tips for the drive

  • Start by 7–8 am to finish the hill section in daylight.
  • The road has many bends after Rishikesh. Carry motion sickness tablets if needed.
  • In July and August, check for landslides before leaving and keep a spare day.
  • Fuel up in Rishikesh or Chamba.
